Donation of bicycles - Offenherz makes mobile!
We hope that we can help the young mother Sada from Syria going to be a little more mobile and also independently in her new hometown Cloppenburg. Shortly before New Year's Eve we were also able to "convert" to a smaller bike for her daughter Mawa.
The parents had paid Mawa a bit too small bike for Christmas. I remember myself very well how much one was happy as a child to "update" every 2-3 years to the next larger bike size.
Definitely we are looking forward now to a girl or a little boy at the age of 6-8 years to receive the 20-inch bicycle, formerly used some days by Mawa.
A bicycle tour with the whole family to the countryside is now definitely nothing in the way. I'm really looking forward to meet you at the one or other bike tour in the spring!
The Offenherz Bicycle Rental System
Although today a further 20 bicycles were delivered to our tiny Offenherz warehouse, already becoming apparent now, that we must establish a rental system to make as many refugees mobile instead of giving away own bicycles to all everyone. We will post more details about our pragmatic "bike sharing system" very soon on this blog.
Of course, this system will be open and therefore it can be used by other organizations, associations, cities and communities as well. We will send you even more information, if we are ready to deliver.
Of course, we still need more bicycles ans also we would like to ask you to donate and grant to allow us to help in a continues and effective way. We promise to work hard on a sustainable organization that can be used anywhere in the same or in a similar way.
We are happy to note that the parish of St. Joseph, St. Andrew and St. Augustine and St. Bernard will support our bicycles pick-up action in Cloppenburg!

Dankeschön an die Spedition Thomsen + Kühne
Ein dickes Dankeschön geht an die Spedition Thomsen + Kühne. Der Geschäftsführer Andreas Kühne hat spontan zugesagt, uns beim Transportieren von gebrauchten Fahrrädern für Flüchtlinge zu helfen.
Heute haben wir nun eine erste Lieferung mit 22 gebrauchten Fahrrädern erhalten. Nach einer ersten Durchsicht sind einige Reparaturarbeiten erforderlich. Dennoch ist der erste Eindruck über die Lieferqualität der Lieferung insgesamt sehr positiv.
Für die Reparaturen möchten wir gerne die Hilfe vom Repaircafe Cloppenburg in Anspruch nehmen. Das Repaircafe ist so wie wir ein relativ neuer Verein in Cloppenburg.
Der Fokus der ehrenamtlichen Arbeit dieses Vereins liegt auf der Reparatur von Technik, wie Computertechnik, Radio & Fernsehen oder eben auch Fahrräder.
Nach dem Motto gemeinsam sind wir stärker, können wir allerdings ein positives Beispiel für andere Regionen sein. Wir wollen insofern das Musterbeispiel sein und möchten unser Wissen an andere Städten, Gemeinden und Organisationen weitergeben.
Der Fokus vom Repaircafe liegt ansonsten eindeutig auf einem ressourcenschonenden Materialverbrauch. Bestimmte Waren sollen repariert und danach auch wiederverwendet werden.
